  • PHOTO COURTESY OF VENICE AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY -- Bill Jervey presents a check for $15,000 to Venice Area Historical Society President Barbara A. Smith and Development Chair Mary Huba Feb. 24. The funds are designated for the "Preserve the Venice Depot?s Circus Train Heritage" campaign, the Society?s effort to bring a restored circus rail car to the empty rail at the Depot. Huba announced a new $10,000 challenge grant, a gift of Barbara and Dick Smith. The goal is to have the car for the 90th birthday of the city of Venice and the Venice Train Depot in March 2017. Contributions may be sent to Circus Car, VAHS, Caldwell Trust Company, 1400 Center Road, Venice, FL 34293.
